One-day internationals (4): Zimbabwe 1, Bangladesh 3
Zimbabwe concluded their World Cup preparations with a home one-day
series against their most frequent opponents of recent times. This was the
third one-day series between these two since July 2006: including a game in
the Champions Trophy, the overall match score in that time was 11- 4 to
Bangladesh. It was a close-fought one, the first two games being shared
before Bangladesh - who left their long-serving wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud
at home - won the third after a Zimbabwean collapse, and the fourth despite
a late collapse of their own.
The matches failed to excite the locals, not helped by technical problems
which delayed the telecast of the first match. According to Cricinfo, "Without
any explanation, local TV turned to religious programmes and a quiz show
where the quizmaster got more questions wrong than the contestants." Journalists were thin on the ground, too, thanks to Zimbabwe Cricket's
insistence on charging a $US600 "accreditation fee" to anyone trying to
cover the games.
