At Mirpur, March 18, 2012 (day/night). India won by six wickets. India 4pts. Toss: Pakistan.
Kohli's fourth century at the Shere Bangla Stadium, an innings of 183 laden with 22 fours and a
delightful six over long-off, kept India afloat - for two more days at least. He faced the third ball of
the innings, after Gambhir fell to off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez, but combined well with Tendulkar,
batting without the millstone of that 100th hundred for the first time in more than a year. Their stand
was worth 133, before Kohli broke loose in concert with Rohit Sharma, adding 172 in 26 overs. Two
overs later, India surpassed the 326 they had made against England on a heady day at Lord's in July
2002 to complete their highest successful one-day run-chase. Pakistan looked to have a good bowling
attack, but that counted for little against the in-form Kohli, who trumped a stunning first-wicket stand
of 224 inside 36 overs between Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed. The only higher one-day international
opening stand in a defeat was 235, also against India, by Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten for
South Africa at Kochi in 1999-2000.
Man of the Match: V. Kohli.
