Dhindsa says Stewart and Lara feature in report on match fixing

The Indian Sports Minister Singh Dhindsa has revealed that the names of Alec Stewart and Brian Lara figure in a report on match fixing to be published tomorrow (Wednesday).

There is no evidence of any wrongdoing by either party at present, though the report is based upon evidence discovered by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Though the CBI is not understood to have investigated non-Indian players, some witness statements have named individuals of other nationalities.

Dhindsa, talking to Star News, is reported to have replied when asked to name those mentioned in the report "Lara is also there, and Stewart, the English player."

He also claimed that the report named five Indian players. Kapil Dev is not mentioned according to Dhindsa.

Head Of The ECB, Lord MacLaurin, recently suggested that if any English player were implicated in match fixing they should be suspended until their innocence is proven.

Alec Stewart appeared relaxed when told about the news, and was described by Pat Murphy of The BBC as "a man with nothing to hide."
