Date-stamped : 25 Sep94 - 18:34 WC87 Group B: West Indies v Sri Lanka, 13 October 1987 I think the scoreboard pretty much speaks for itself. There are a few things worth mentioning though. Richards eclipsed Kapil Dev's 175* as the highest score by a batsan in the WC (2nd highest in all ODIs). He reached his 100 off 97 balls and then went berserk. He hit Ravi Ratnayake for 43 runs in two overs! These runs included 5 sixes and 3 fours. He helped the Windies to the highest total ever achieved by a team in a one-dayer. Asantha De Mel's 10-0-97-1 is the 2nd worst analysis by a bowler in all ODIs. The worst is by Martin Snedden v Eng at The Oval, 1983 (WC). Mahanama started out as if he wanted to overhaul the WI total. He struck Patterson for three consecutive boundaries in the very 1st over. He was quieted by Walsh and Harper though, and once SL lost 3 wkts for just 57 runs, they gave up totally. Even the WI didn't try to get SL all out. The SL inns was as boring as the WI inns (especially Richards' inns) was scintillating. orig from corsair@chopin.udel.edu ? Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
