England A endure tough workout

Cricinfo staff

February 18, 2007

BCB Academy XI 326 (Chowdhury 74, Pavel 70, Faruque 58, Broad 3-99) trail England A 327 for 4 dec (Compton 152*, Prior 82*) by one run
Scorecard

England A's bowlers were given a taste of performing on the subcontinent as the BCB Academy came within one run of their first-innings total on the second day Mirpur. Stuart Broad managed three wickets but Nadif Chowdhury's and Sagir Hussain Pavel both hit seventies.

Instead of opting for more batting time England declared overnight, leaving Nick Compton unbeaten on 152, and Broad provided an early breakthrough. He added a second as the Academy slipped to 54 for 3 but Chowdhury set about the recovery alongside No. 3 Nasiruddin Faruque against an attack containing 14 ODI caps.

Tim Bresnan broke through by trapping Faruque lbw but the task became no easier for England as Pavel joined the fray. Pavel struck nine fours before being bowled by Bresnan and Michael Yardy chipped with a couple of scalps as Adil Rashid, the Yorkshire legspinner, went wicketless in 20 overs.
